    Mark 7:1–23 (LEB)
1And the Pharisees and some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered to him.
2And they saw that some of his disciples were eating their bread with unclean—that is, unwashed—hands.
3(For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands ritually, thus holding fast to the traditions of the elders.
4And when they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other traditions which they have received and hold fast to—for example, the washing of cups and pitchers and bronze kettles and dining couches.)
5And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unclean hands?”
6So he said to them, “Isaiah prophesied correctly about you hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far, far away from me.
7And they worship me in vain, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’
8Abandoning the commandment of God, you hold fast to the tradition of men.”
9And he said to them, “You splendidly ignore the commandment of God so that you can keep your tradition.
10For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘The one who speaks evil of father or mother must certainly die.’
11But you say, ‘If a man says to his father or to his mother, “Whatever benefit you would have received from me is corban” (that is, a gift to God),
12you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or his mother,
13thus making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down, and you do many similar things such as this.”
14And summoning the crowd again, he said to them, “Listen to me, all of you, and understand:
15There is nothing outside of a person that is able to defile him by going into him. But the things that go out of a person are the things that defile a person.”
17And when he entered into the house away from the crowd, his disciples asked him about the parable.
18And he said to them, “So are you also without understanding? Do you not understand that everything that is outside that goes into a person is not able to defile him?
19For it does not enter into his heart but into his stomach, and goes out into the latrine”—thus declaring all foods clean.
20And he said, “What comes out of a person, that defiles a person.
21For from within, from the heart of people, come evil plans, sexual immoralities, thefts, murders,
22adulteries, acts of greed, malicious deeds, deceit, licentiousness, envy, abusive speech, pride, foolishness.
23All these evil things come from within and defile a person.”

    Luke 5:17–26 (LEB)
17And it happened that on one of the days as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem, and the power of the Lord was there in order for him to heal.
18And behold, men came carrying on a stretcher a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and place him before him.
19And when they did not find a way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down through the roof tiles with the stretcher into the midst of them, in front of Jesus.
20And when he saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven you.”
21And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, “Who is this man who speaks blasphemies? Who is able to forgive sins except God alone?”
22But Jesus, perceiving their thoughts, answered and said to them, “Why are you reasoning in your hearts?
23Which is easier to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk?’
24But in order that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins,” he said to the one who was paralyzed, “I say to you, ‘Get up and pick up your stretcher and go to your home.’ ”
25And immediately he stood up before them, picked up what he had been lying on, and went away to his home, glorifying God.
26And amazement seized them all, and they began to glorify God. And they were filled with fear, saying, “We have seen wonderful things today!”

    Matthew 8:23–34 (LEB)
23And as he got into the boat, his disciples followed him.
24And behold, a great storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being inundated by the waves, but he himself was asleep.
25And they came and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”
26And he said to them, “Why are you fearful, you of little faith?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea and there was a great calm.
27And the men were astonished, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?”
28And when he came to the other side, to the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from among the tombs met him, very violent, so that no one was able to pass by along that road.
29And behold, they cried out, saying, “What do you have to do with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?”
30Now a long way from them a large herd of pigs was feeding.
31So the demons implored him, saying, “If you are going to expel us, send us into the herd of pigs.”
32And he said to them, “Go!” So they departed and went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed headlong down the steep slope into the sea and drowned in the water.
33Now the herdsmen fled and went into the town and reported everything, including the things concerning the demon-possessed men.
34And behold, the whole town came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him, they implored him that he would depart from their region.

    John 4:1–26 (LEB)
1Now when Jesus knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John
2(although Jesus himself was not baptizing, but his disciples),
3he left Judea and departed again for Galilee.
4And it was necessary for him to go through Samaria.
5Now he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the piece of land that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.
6And Jacob’s well was there, so Jesus, because he had become tired from the journey, simply sat down at the well. It was about the sixth hour.
7A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me water to drink.”
8(For his disciples had gone away into the town so that they could buy food.)
9So the Samaritan woman said to him, “How do you, being a Jew, ask from me water to drink, since I am a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)
10Jesus answered and said to her, “If you had known the gift of God and who it is who says to you, ‘Give me water to drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”
11The woman said to him, “Sir, you have no bucket and the well is deep! From where then do you get this living water?
12You are not greater than our father Jacob, are you, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, and his sons and his livestock?”
13Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again.
14But whoever drinks of this water which I will give to him will never be thirsty for eternity, but the water which I will give to him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”
15The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or come here to draw water!”
16He said to her, “Go, call your husband and come here.”
17The woman answered and said to him, “I do not have a husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have said rightly, ‘I do not have a husband,’
18for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you have now is not your husband; this you have said truthfully!”
19The woman said to him, “Sir, I see that you are a prophet.
20Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where it is necessary to worship.”
21Jesus said to her, “Believe me, woman, that an hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.
22You worship what you do not know. We worship what we know, because salvation is from the Jews.
23But an hour is coming—and now is here—when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for indeed the Father seeks such people to be his worshipers.
24God is spirit, and the ones who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
25The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (the one called Christ); “whenever that one comes, he will proclaim all things to us.”
26Jesus said to her, “I, the one speaking to you, am he.

    Matthew 6:25–34 (LEB)
25“For this reason I say to you, do not be anxious for your life, what you will eat, and not for your body, what you will wear. Is your life not more than food and your body more than clothing?
26Consider the birds of the sky, that they do not sow or reap or gather produce into barns, and your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth more than they are?
27And who among you, by being anxious, is able to add one hour to his life span?
28And why are you anxious about clothing? Observe the lilies of the field, how they grow: they do not toil or spin,
29but I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory was dressed like one of these.
30But if God dresses the grass of the field in this way, although it is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not do so much more for you, you of little faith?
31Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?,’
32for the pagans seek after all these things. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
33But seek first his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
34Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow, because tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

    John 7:1–13 (LEB)
1And after these things Jesus was going about in Galilee. For he did not want to go about in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him.
2Now the feast of the Jews—the feast of Tabernacles—was near.
3So his brothers said to him, “Depart from here and go to Judea, so that your disciples also can see your works that you are doing.
4For no one does anything in secret and yet he himself desires to be publicly recognized. If you are doing these things, reveal yourself to the world!”
5(For not even his brothers believed in him.)
6So Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.
7The world cannot hate you, but it hates me, because I am testifying about it, that its deeds are evil.
8You go up to the feast. I am not going up to this feast, because my time is not yet completed.
9And when he had said these things, he remained in Galilee.
10But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not openly, but (as it were) in secret.
11So the Jews were looking for him at the feast, and were saying, “Where is he?”
12And there was a lot of grumbling concerning him among the crowds; some were saying, “He is a good man,” but others were saying, “No, but he deceives the crowd.”
13However, no one was speaking openly about him for fear of the Jews.

    Luke 10:25–37 (LEB)
25And behold, a certain legal expert stood up to test him, saying, “Teacher, what must I do so that I will inherit eternal life?”
26And he said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you read it?”
27And he answered and said, “You shall love the Lord your God from all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
28And he said to him, “You have answered correctly. Do this and you will live.”
29But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30And Jesus replied and said, “A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of robbers, who both stripped him and beat him. After inflicting blows on him, they went away, leaving him half dead.
31Now by coincidence a certain priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side.
32And in the same way also a Levite, when he came down to the place and saw him, passed by on the opposite side.
33But a certain Samaritan who was traveling came up to him and, when he saw him, had compassion.
34And he came up and bandaged his wounds, pouring on olive oil and wine, and he put him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him.
35And on the next day, he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, and said, “Take care of him, and whatever you spend in addition, I will repay to you when I return.
36Which of these three do you suppose became a neighbor of the man who fell among the robbers?”
37So he said, “The one who showed mercy to him.” And Jesus said to him, “You go and do likewise.”

    Matthew 14:13–21 (LEB)
13Now when Jesus heard it, he withdrew from there in a boat to an isolated place by himself. And when the crowds heard it, they followed him by land from the towns.
14And as he got out, he saw the large crowd and had compassion on them and healed their sick.
15Now when it was evening, the disciples came to him saying, “The place is desolate and the hour is late. Release the crowds so that they can go away into the villages and purchase food for themselves.”
16But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
17And they said to him, “We do not have anything here except five loaves and two fish.”
18So he said, “Bring them here to me.”
19And he commanded the crowds to recline for a meal on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks. And after breaking them, he gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds.
20And they all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full.
21Now those who ate were about five thousand men, in addition to women and children.

    John 3:16–21 (LEB)
16For in this way God loved the world, so that he gave his one and only Son, in order that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life.
17For God did not send his Son into the world in order that he should judge the world, but in order that the world should be saved through him.
18The one who believes in him is not judged, but the one who does not believe has already been judged, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.
19And this is the judgment: that the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil.
20For everyone who practices evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds be exposed.
21But the one who practices the truth comes to the light, in order that his deeds may be revealed, that they are done in God.

    Mark 3:1–12 (LEB)
1And he entered into the synagogue again, and a man who had a withered hand was there.
2And they were watching him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath, in order that they could accuse him.
3And he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Come into the middle.”
4And he said to them, “Is it permitted on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.
5And looking around at them with anger, grieved at the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.
6And the Pharisees went out immediately with the Herodians and began to conspire against him with regard to how they could destroy him.
7And Jesus went away with his disciples to the sea, and a great crowd from Galilee followed him. And from Judea
8and from Jerusalem and from Idumea and the other side of the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon a great crowd came to him because they heard all that he was doing.
9And he told his disciples that a small boat should stand ready for him because of the crowd, so that they would not press upon him.
10For he had healed many, so that all those who were suffering from diseases pressed about him in order that they could touch him.
11And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw him, were falling down before him and crying out, saying, “You are the Son of God!”
12And he warned them strictly that they should not make him known.
